The Greek island of Kos lies in the southeast Aegean Sea just off the Turkish coast. It’s an ideal place for sun-seekers and culture vultures alike. Relax on the wonderful long beaches or at the Embros spa, a thermal spring out in the open sea, or fall under the spell of the island’s isolated villages. Hike to the Neratza Knights Hospitaller fortress, to the remains of the Paleo Pyli castle or head off in search of Hippocrates’ plane tree, connected to the most famous doctor in the ancient world. It’s also worth taking a boat to nearby Turkey for a day.
